Safera Adds Smarts to the Humble Stove

Finnish stove guard maker Safera takes to the IFA Global Press Conference 2019 to present what it describes as the "first complete smart cooking sensor"-- the app-connected Safera Sense.

Safera SenseAt first glance the Sense appears to be a fairly simple device. It features a slim, one-button design, and can be easily mounted above a cooktop, wall or under the cooker hood. However Safera says it carries a "powerful" processor able to analyse data from over 20 sensors allowing it to work out stove temperature, air quality, cooker power consumption and even human activity around the stove, and is compatible with both electric and gas stoves.

A Gaming Phone With a Built-in Cooling Fan

Chinese phone maker Nubia takes the gaming smartphone concept a step further with the Red Magic 3-- a device featuring a built-in cooling fan, a first according to the company.

Nubia red magic The fan spins up to 14000 rpm, and works in conjunction with a "liquid cooling" copper heat pipe system to ensure the handset stays frosty even while playing the most demanding games. An isolated chamber houses the fan, and Nubia says it is rated for up to 30000 hours of continuous use (although it fails to specify the speeds the fan is running at during tests).

The IFA Global Press Conference provides a preview of the largest technology show in the world, pointing out connectivity, AI and voice control as the big trends driving innovation in both CE and home appliances this year and beyond.

The IFA Next innovation hub gets a first Global Innovation Partner with the land of the rising sun, Japan.

Futuresource: Amazon and Harman Wrestle for Audio Domination

Two companies currently control the global home audio market, Futuresource reports-- Amazon and Harman/JBL, with the two taking first and second place respectively in the Q4 2018 home audio shipment rankings.

home audio“Amazon regained its position as the leading home audio vendor in terms of quarterly shipments, wrestling the crown from Harman/JBL, which dropped into 2nd place,” the analyst says. “However, Harman/JBL’s strong performance between Q1 and Q3 was enough for it to achieve top home audio vendor for full year 2018. In revenue terms, Harman/JBL, Bose, Sony and Sonos led the pack consistently throughout the year.”
