Samsung Presents 108MP Smartphone Image Sensor

PDFPrintE-mail

Samsung sets to further push smartphone photography with the 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX-- an image sensor the company claims is the first to go beyond 100 million pixels, a resolution equivalent ot a high-end DSLR camera.

Samsung sensorDeveloped in collaboration with Xiaomi, the sensor promises "extremely sharp photographs rich in detail," even in extreme lighting conditions. It comes in a large 1/1.33-inch size, allowing it to absorb more light in low-lit settings, while pixel-merging Tetracell technology allows the sensor to imitate big-pixel sensor. The result, Samsung says, is brighter 27MP images.

A Smart-ISO mechanism sets the level of amplifier gains according to illumination levels, and switches to a low ISO in case of bright conditions and to high ISO in darker settings to reduce noise. The sensor also supports video recording at resolutions up to 60K (6016 x 3384) at 30fps.

The Next Big Thing: Consumer Robotics?

PDFPrintE-mail

Consumer robot shipments will reach over 74 million in 2024, Juniper Research reports-- an increase from the shipments of 28m in 2019, the result of addition of educational features, such as coding tools, increasing the value proposition of such devices.

The waveguide display sits in front of one of eyes, and pushes real-time swim data such as distance and time, among other things. The display is see-through, meaning it does not impact the ability to see the surrounding environment, and is powered by a small box set outside the lens mount. Form says the hardware is lightweight, even as it contains a waveguide, gyroscope and a battery, together with a pair of hardware buttons (power and selection). The lenses feature an anti-fog and chemical-resistant coating, while the package includes 5 nose bridge sizes as well as silicone eye seals and a silicone strap.
