IFA Goes Green at Sustainability Park

As customers become increasingly aware of the issues affecting the environment, Global Fairs launches the International Sustainability Park (ISP) at IFA 2019-- an area set to help the industry better understand what consumers expect of supposedly green-aware businesses.

IFA Sustainabiilty parkThe ISP is an initiative involving some industry and green product associations. According to Global Fairs managing director Jan Nintemann, it is not the "typical" green industry event. Instead of just focusing on recycling and toxic substances, the ISP conference covers which changes younger generations expect from consumer products and marketing, as well as how companies can start a true green dialogue and the role trade shows play in pushing climate action to industries.

Sharp Claims Biggest LCD TV at IFA 2019

Sharp takes to IFA 2019 to present what it claims is the biggest liquid crystal display-- a 120-inch behemoth making part of a "groundbreaking" 8K+5G Ecosystem showcase combining high-resolution displays and 5G connectivity.

It is important to point out the display is an LCD, since technically the biggest 8K TV currently in existence is The Wall Luxury, the 292-inch Samsung titan featuring on MicroLED technology. Sharp fails to give too many details on the 120-inch 8K LCD TV other than the inclusion of 5G connectivity, something the company says allows the TV to display works of art.

Gartner: Smartphone Sales Down Yet Again in Q2 2019

Global smartphone sales are down by -1.7% Y-o-Y to reach 368 million units in Q2 2019, Gartner reports, with the slowdown of demand for high-end models forcing vendors to bring premium features to low-priced devices.

“Demand for high-end smartphones has slowed at a greater rate than demand for midrange and low-end smartphones,” the analyst says. “To try to boost smartphone replacements, we’ve seen manufacturers bringing premium features such as multilens front/back cameras, bezel-less displays and large batteries from their flagship smartphones into lower-priced models."

Garmin Intros Fenix 6 Smartwatches

Garmin launches the Fenix 6 range of multi-sport GPS smartwatch-- a family including the first Garmin watch with a transparent solar charging lens, 1.4-inch sunlight readable display and the promise of longer battery life.

Garmin Fenix 6As the name might suggest, the Fenix 6X Solar is the smartwatch featuring solar charging. According to the company, the "Power Glass" solar lens extends the 21-day battery life (in smartwatch mode) by up to 3 days. GPS mode slashes battery life to 15 hours, extended to 16 by solar charging. The display is 36% larger compared to the largest option from the previous Fenix 5 series, but as a result solar charging is only available with the larger 51mm case.

Vivotek features the CC9381-HV at CEDIA Expo 2019-- a 180-degree H.265 panoramic anti-ligature fisheye network camera complete with Trend Micro IoT cybersecurity.

Construction is IP66-rated for weather-proofing, and the housing is also IK10-rated against vandalism. Also included are a ±25° tilt lens and a built-in microphone.
