TCL 2019 TVs Feature Quantum Dots

TCL details the upcoming 2019 TV range with a focus on bigger screens and high-end features such as QLED quantum dot panels and mini-LED local dimming zones for enhanced 4K performance.

On the top of the 2019 TCL range is the QLED 8-Series. It consists of two models, the 65-inch 65Q825 and 75-inch 75Q825, both featuring Quantum Contrast technology the company says offers a "significant jump" in brightness, contrast and viewing angles using mini-LEDs to create local dimming zones. The TVs handle 100% of DCI-P3 colour volume coverage, and customers can use the AiPQ Engine to optimse colour, contrast and clarity. Also included is HDR support via HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

The Third Generation of Snap Spectacles

Snap has clearly not given up on the smart glasses concept as it announces the 3rd generations of Spectacles-- the Spectacles 3, still a means for customers to record up to 60 seconds of video for Snapchat.

Spectacles 3Released in 2017 the original Spectacles were, to put it mildly, a loss maker for Snap. In fact, the company admitted just 0.08% of Snapchat users bought a pair, and as a result ended up making a $40 million loss on the the device, the result of “excess inventory reserves and inventory purchase commitment cancellation charges.” The 2nd generation Spectacles featured a bulkier design, and Snap did not release any sales figures.

Motorola Takes Action With One Action

Motorola wants to combine the smartphone with the action camera as it announces the One Action-- an addition to the mid-range One series featuring a rear-facing camera with a a 117-degree field of view allowing for GoPro-style shooting.

At first glance the One Action is similar to the rest of the One range, with a 6.3-inch 1080 x 2520  resolution LCD display complete with hole-punch cutout for a 12MP front-facing camera, even if the unusually tall 21:9 aspect ratio makes it stand out at least a bit. It carries a 2.2GHz Samsyng Exynos 9609 processor, a Mali G72 MP3 GPU, 3500mAh battery with USB-C 10W charging, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage (expandable via microSD). The OS of choice is, as the name might suggest, Android One.

Logitech Adds to G Range Keyboards

Logitech announces a pair of keyboard additions to the G gaming hardware range-- the wireless G915 Lightspeed and the wired G815 Lightsync, both featuring low-profile GL switches in a sleek aluminium case.

Logitech keyboardGL switches come in 3 variants, linear, tacticle and clicky, or the equivalent of the Cherry MX Red, Brown and Blue switches. Logitech claims they are 50% the height of standard mechnical switches and offer 25% faster presses, making for a more comfortable typing experience.

The G915 features proprietary 2.4GHz wireless Lightspeed technology via companion dongle to pair with the PC. Bluetooth connectivity is also available. The company says battery life clocks at just 12 days if one has the RGB lighting on, but it shoots up to 135 days with the lighting off, as based on the assumption of 8 hours of use a day.

IKEA Commits to Smart Home

Swedish furniture maker IKEA further commits to home automation as it establishes IKEA Home smart, the initiative to add digital smarts into products and solutions, as a dedicated business unit within the company.
