IDC's Mobile Phone Tracker shows the W. European mobile market grew 1.5%. Healthy increase of smartphone shipments offset the fall in traditional devices.
IDC's Francisco Jeronimo says growth is driven particularly by Android devices. The Google OS achieved 15% market share this quarter, with HTC, Samsung and Sony Ericsson devices being very successful.
Smartphones represent 34% of total shipments.
The traditional phone market declined by 14% year-on-year. Decreasing price gaps between feature phones and smartphones mean consumers consider smartphones for their next upgrade.
Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson dominate the W. European smartphone market. LG takes 3rd place in the low-end tier market.
