Panasonic Returning to Video Game Jungle?

Panasonic develops a handheld gaming system, codenamed Jungle. 15 years after the 3DO console, the Jungle atmosphere will be cloudy following the recent launch of Panasonic Cloud Entertainment (PCENT) for content.

The Jungle

As seen in videos on the Jungle website, the device is clamshell, with display in the top half. The bottom contains dual d-pads, touchpad and keyboard. Various ports look like a 3.5mm jack, micro USB, and a mini HDMI amongst unidentified others.

Panasonic reveals only one game so far - a MMO based on the TV show Battle Star Galactica, BSG: Online.

Glif Mounts an iPhone 4 to a Tripod, and More

The Glif's acts as a small tripod mount for iPhone 4. The phone slips into a groove which wraps L-shaped around a corner and the iPhone's edge.

It also acts as a kickstand to hold the device up in a variety of angles and orientations

If the Glif is left wrapped around the phone's bottom left edge it also serves as a bumper, stopping the user from touching the infamous antenna-strip.

Apps Developers Look to Connected TVs

Developers show enthusiasm for connected TVs, with 44% saying they are ‘very interested’ in developing for Google TV vs. 40% for Apple TV, according to the Q3 report by Appcelerator/IDC.

Scott Ellison, VP Mobile & Wireless, IDC, "Apps are poised to help remake the television viewing experience just as they have remade the mobile experience. Television needs new and more effective ways to create immersive experiences, engage audiences with advertisers, integrate social networks, and drive viewership of original broadcasts."

He added. "The television players who most effectively integrate app developers into their connected TV strategies are poised to potentially remake the television experience as we know it."

The report is based on 2400 developers who use Appcelerator services.

Philips, Broadcom Point the Way in RC

Broadcom announces its partnership with Philips Home Control in remote control device development.

The two company's collaboration will lead to development of devices operated by gestural controls. Broadcom is involved in the introduction of gestural controls for video game consoles.

Also mentioned are touchpad remote controls and wireless mini-keyboards. These devices would all connect via Broadcom's bluetooth technology.

Microsoft Signs Samsung to WIN Phone7

Samsung announces an agreement to use Windows Phone 7 as a key component of its future smartphones.

The company plans to launch several Windows Phone 7 devices.

Samsung's Simon Stanford says the new smartphones will play a key role in the company's market strategy. These combine Samsung's latest hardware design and technology with Microsoft services including Xbox LIVE, Office, Windows Live and Bing.
