Darty CEO Steps Down as Sales Remain Flat

PDFPrintE-mail

Darty (formerly known as Kesa) CEO Thierry Falque-Pierrotin steps down by "mutual agreement" as like-for-like (LFL) revenue growth remains virtually flat for fiscal Q1 2012.

Kesa CEOChief Executive for the past 4 years, Falque-Pierrotin will leave the retailer on December 2012 once Darty Group review is complete. The board is already looking for a successor, and will announce a choice "in due course."

Falque-Pierrotin claims he "greatly enjoyed" leading the Darty Group, even if the shadow of revolt covers his leadership period. How come? Darty shareholders were not too happy the retailer gave Falque-Pierrotin a "golden hello" worth £720000 in shares-- a gift of sorts later described as a "mistake."

Moving on to Darty performance, the retailer says "All our markets have remained challenging" with Darty France revenues down by -1.2% (-2.5% LFL) due to a weak Vision market. "Other" established businesses (BCC, Vanden Borre, Datart) grow by 7.1% LFL, with strong growth in the Netherlands and Belgium thanks to "very strong" multimedia sales.

"Developing" businesses (Darty Italy, Turkey, Spain) grow by 2.1% LFL.

JVC 4K Projectors Get e-Shift2 Upgrade

PDFPrintE-mail

JVC reveals a consumer projector lineup able to scale 2D content to a 4K signal-- the Procision Series DLA-X95R, DLA-X75R, DLA-X55R and DLA-X35, all using e-shift2 (formerly e-shift) technology.

JVCIntroduced in 2011, e-shift upconverts and scales 2D HD content to a 4K signal (3840x2160) and displays it at full 4K resolution. Compared to a full HD (1920x1080) image 4K images use four times the number of pixels (over 8MP) with twice the horizontal and vertical resolution.

The e-shift update replaces a 2-band filter with an 8-band version applying more correction to more areas of the image to deliver, according to JVC, a noticeable improvement with compatible 2D signals. This so called Multiple Pixel Control also offers five different present modules (as well as Off).

Contrast ratios also see improvement thanks to a new polarising grid engine-- the flagship DLA-X95R offers 130000:1, the DLA-X75R offers 90000:1 and both DLA-X55R and DLA-X35 offer 50000:2 native contrast.

Other projector features include active shutter glasses with RF (rather than IR) technology, control via smartphone app and additional lens memory settings.

ViewSonic Desktop Tablet Returns

PDFPrintE-mail

You might remember the ViewSonic VCD22, the odd, oversized Android tablet (or ARM-based AIO PC, if you will) first seen at Computex 2012. It returns, and ViewSonic now calls it the VSD220 Smart Display.

VSD220 Smart DisplayIt remains mostly the same to what was seen at Computex, if with one major difference-- the battery is out. Otherwise it is still 22-inch Android 4.0 AIO PC with a 1920x1080 touchscreen and a dual-core OMAP 4 processor.

ViewSonic includes plenty of connectivity options, such as Micro HDMI, x3 USB ports, MicroSD card reader, RJ45, wifi and Bluetooth. The device also has a built-in 1.2MP front-facing webcam with integrated microphone and SRS Premium Sound speakers.

Will the VSD220 find success in a market filling up with Windows 8 AIO PCs? We will know once it hits the market on October 2012.
