Yamaha debuts a complete home theatre solution with the YHT-679BL-- a system in a box replete with Apple Airplay-compatible receiver and a full 5.1 speaker package.

Yamaha Home TheatreThe speakers include 2 front tower speakers, 3 compact satellites for the surrounds and centre channel and a 6.5-inch 100W subwoofer packing Yamaha's Advanced YSTII technology.

The receiver is not only Airplay capable (connecting to iDevices via free Yamaha AV Controller App)-- it also handles networked content from internet radio stations and DLNA-certified devices and supports HDMI 4K and 3D video pass-through with Audio Return Channel.

So Microsoft Does Have Partners for Win RT OEM

Remember the comments from Acer CEO J.T. Wang on Microsoft's going ahead with the Surface tablet? Maybe here is another reason for his outburst (or proof of Wang's belief that Microsoft is going into competition with him)-- Acer is not in the list of initial Windows RT OEM partners.

Win RT tabletMicrosoft lists Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Samsung as the first vendors selling Windows RT devices at launch. It also mentions Nvidia, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments as silicon partners.

Other than Acer, familiar names missing from the partner list include HP and HTC (apparently "shut out" of Windows 8 according to a July 2012 Bloomberg report).

A blog post from Microsoft VP of Ecosystem and Planning Mike Angiulo promises the OEM partners will not only offer tablets, but also PCs with “full keyboard and touchpad solutions, whether removable/dockable or a traditional clamshell.”

The Thinnest Mobile Charger Yet?

Do your customers fear running out of mobile device power at the wort possible time? Proporta suggests the TurboCharger Pocket Power for such emergencies-- a charger small enough to fit in a wallet.

TurboCharger Pocket PowerThe Pocket Power measures 90 x 54 x 7mm and "packs a surprisingly high amount of power" according to the company. It has 680mAh capacity, and Proporta claims the Pocket Power can charge a Samsung Galaxy S3 by 23%, a Kindle 4 by 50%, an iPhone 4S by 34% and the Google Nexus 7 by 11%.

Charging comes through micro USB port (with an adapter for Apple devices). LED lights indicate the amount of charge left.

Apple, Amazon Dominate Online Brown Goods

According to Greenlight, Amazon UK and Apple are the most known retailers when it comes to online brown goods in the UK-- Amazon UK is the "most visible brown goods advertiser online" while Apple is "the most visible website."

AmazonThe analyst assessed brands, retailers and review sites most visible to UK consumers searching on Google UK and social networks for audio & accessories, cameras & camcorders, PCs & laptops, phones & accessories and TVs & DVD players.

The survey period covered May 2012.

The report says Amazon UK has 30% visibility share (in paid media), with the most visible unique ad creative in the audio & accessories subsector.

Meanwhile Apple not only ranks 1st for the search term "iPhone" but also has a 37% share of voice for overall brown goods-related searches.

The keyword "iPhone 5" has the highest number of queries (45000) and accounts for 6% of total brown good searches in May 2012, and 21% of those made for phones & accessories. Following "closely" are "iPad 3" and "BlackBerry." Clearly a sign of what customers want, then.

Neo Geo Returns in Handheld Format

The Neo Geo is reborn-- the 1990 arcade system turned home console from SNK returns as a handheld console with the name "Neo Geo X Gold."

Neo Geo X GoldManufactured under license by Blaze, the Neo Geo X Gold handles native Neo Geo games and ships preloaded with 20 different games. It also has an "expandable game card slot" of an unspecified variety.

The display is a 4.3-inch LCD of unknown resolution. The machine also has internal stereo speakers, 3.5mmm headphone jack, analog control stick and x4 hardware buttons.

Blaze also offers two accessories-- the Neo Geo X Station allows charging and transfers games to TVs or monitors via HDMI or A/V out, while the Neo Geo X Joystick provides a full-size arcade-style joystick controller.

The Neo Geo X Gold should ship from December 2012 with a $199.99 price tag.
