LG Unites Sister Companies for Smartphone

PDFPrintE-mail

LG Electronics hopes the rest of the LG family will help it "set a new standard in the smartphone market"-- its vertically-integrated sister companies LG Display, LG Innotek and LG Chem are helping with a new mobile device.

SnapdragonThe yet unnamed smartphone is the first from the company to carry the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, promising "blazing fast performance," longer battery life and a thinner profile.

All the sister companies offer a contribution. LG Display has the new True HD IPS+ Display. It claims superior performance to current AMOLED panels, with a 320ppi (1280x768 resolution) pixel density, up to 470 nits of brightness and 70% less power consumption.

Solution provider LG Innotek teams up with LG Display and develops the "G2 Touch Hybrid Display"-- a unibody unit eliminating the gap between the glass and LCD panel found in traditional touchscreens.

LG Chem provides a new battery with supposed 60% more efficient performance than similiar-sized batteries, as well as a lifespan of 800 charges, an industry first according to the company. Standard mobile phone batteries have a lifespan of around 500 charges, apparently.

No doubt LG wants the same success Apple has when it comes to vertical integration...
