Sony adds more capabilities to the 6th generation Aibo with the announcement of a web-based API allowing users to program new tricks into the lovable robot puppy, including the ability to control connected devices.

The "Aibo Developer Program" is designed for developers wanting to make "services and applications" working with the robot dog. A concept video demonstrates the concept well enough. It has the pup monitor a microwave, turn on a robot vacuum, let one know when the laundry is done and even act as a surveillance camera, all with the help of simple voice controls.

Dyanabook Presents T8, T9 Laptops

Dynabook-- aka the post-rebranding former Toshiba Client Solutions group-- launches a pair of interesting-looking laptops with the T8 and T9, both being 16.1-inch machines with an integrated Blu-ray/DVD burner.

Available in Stylish Blue or Satin Gold, the laptops are built in thick plastic and feature a 16.1-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS display. Beneath the display is a pair of Onkyo speakers complete with DTS software enhancement adding Dynamic Wide Sound capability. Inside the machines are an  Intel quad-core Core i7-8565U processor with UHD 620 Graphics, 8/16GB DDR4-2400 memory (T8 and T9 models, respectively), 256GB M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD, 1TB 5400 RPM HDD and a Blu-ray drive compatible with BD XL discs.

Bloomberg: Apple AR/VR Hardware on the Way?

Apple is working on a "range" of augmented and virtual reality devices, Bloomberg reports, with unnamed "people familiar with the plans" adding the iPhone maker is basing such hardware on a new 3D sensor system.

The first device using the 3D sensor system is the 2020 iPad Pro update-- one featuring a 2-camera module and a "small hole" housing the 3D system. It should allow users to create "3D reconstructions of rooms, object and people," and will eventually be available in the high end 5G-capable iPhones set for launch next year.

Xiaomi Rivals Apple with Mi Watch

Xiaomi announces a first smartwatch, and it looks a lot like the Apple Watch-- the Mi Watch, a wearable featuring a 1.78-inch 410 x 410 resolution. OLED display running on a skinned version of Wear OS.

The Mi Watch has a curved square face complete with the same crown, button, speaker and mic placement as the Apple Watch. Inside the aluminium body are a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a 570mAh battery, and the device includes NFC, GPS and LTE together with a built-in eSIM chip. Wireless connectivity comes through wifi and Bluetooth 4.2, and fitness tracking borrowed from the Mi Band series is included.
