Latest CE Trend is...Cat Ears

PDFPrintE-mail

The converging of consumer electronics and health may have created a strange parallel universe in "biohavioural" electronics. Japan's Neurowear latest product, Necomimi, uses biosensors to determine your mental state (brainwaves of concentration vs a lack of interest) and to accordingly drive motors that position "cat ears" that you wear on your head.

NecomimiIf you concentrate hard enough, the cat ears point up.  Losing interest or relaxing will drop the ears down. In Tokyo, it is reported that Necomimi's popularity is growing into a fashion trend. Yes, if people don't want to hear from your T-shirt, now they can judge your mood by your electronic cat ears.

You can laugh at what Japanese people will do.  But just remember: in Europe we laughed at karaoke when we saw it. Market experts in Europe predicted no Westerner would ever risk public humiliation and therefore karaoke would never become a mass market product here.
