Parrot Gives Up on Toy Drones

Parrot droneFrench drone maker Parrot confirms an exit from the toy drone market to both The New York Times' Wirecutter and The Verge, meaning it stopped the production of all consumer drones other than the Anafi line.

But why would Parrot stop making small drones such as the Mambo or Swing? After all, the consumer drone market is currently booming, as Reuters reports the global non-military drone market with reach $14.3 billion over the next decade. However the companies benefiting from such sales hail primarily from China, with DJI taking the biggest chunk.

Samsung Produces LPDDR5 DRAM for Premium Phones

Samsung starts mass production of what it says is the first 12Gb LPDDR5 mobile DRAM in the industry. Aimed at the premium smartphones of the future, the memory is optimised to enable 5G and AI features.

The announcement comes all of 5 months after Samsung started mass producing 12GB LPDDR4X memory, and just a month before it starts mass producing 12GB LPDDR5 packages combining eight of the 12Gb chips, in line with growing demand for higher performance and capacity from premium smartphone makers.

Withings BPM Core Arrives in Europe

Withings follows on the CES 2019 announcement of the BPM Core connected blood pressure monitor with news of it receiving necessary approval from the EU, making it available for retail in European markets.

BPM CoreThe BPM Core features a traditional arm cuff design, and can both measure blood pressure and take ECG (electrocardiogram) readings. The result, Withings says, is a device allowing customers to identify serious heart conditions, including atrial fibrillation. Another interesting feature is a digital stethoscope able to detect valvular heart disease, or damage to one of the four valves inside the heart.

Nomad announces a cable range update-- one including USB-C to USB-C, USB-A to Lighting, "Universal" and USB-C to Lightning cables in a variety of lengths-- all featuring construction in Kevlar for increased durability.

Nomad says it uses Kevlar both inside and outside the cables, since the material makes both the braided exterior and the central internal core. Meanwhile the connector plugs are in metal alloy, and all applicable cables are MFi-certified.
