Sonos proves recent rumours true with the announcement of the Arc, a "premium smart soundbar" capable of pushing "cinema-quality" sound through 11 high-performance drivers and Dolby Atmos support.

Qualcomm Powers Mobile Gaming With Snapdragon 768G

Qualcomm announces a followup to the 2019 Snapdragon 765G mobile gaming processor-- the Snapdragon 768G, an upgraded promising a number of performance improvements, together with support for upgradeable GPU drivers.

In terms of power, the 768G features a 2.8GHz Kryo 475 CPU, a performance boost of around 15% compared to the 2.4GHz CPU inside the 765G. The Adreno 620 GPU offers a similar performance boost of around 20% over the previous chip, with 120Hz support at 1080p resolutions. Meanwhile upgradeable GPU driver support allows developers and customers to fine-tune visual performance, similar to the day one can with gaming PCs.

Strategy Analytics: Smartwatch Shipments Up in Q1 2020

According to Strategy Analytics (SA), global smartwatch shipments are up by 20% in Q1 2020, reaching a total of 14 million units. The Apple Watch maintains the lead with 55% market share, but rivals are gunning for a slice of the pie.

“Apple Watch shipped 7.6m worldwide in Q1 2020, rising an above-average 23% Y-o-Y from 6.2m in Q1 2019," the analyst says. "Apple’s global smartwatch marketshare has grown from 54% to 55%, its highest level for two years. Apple Watch continues to fend off strong competition from hungry rivals like Garmin and Samsung. Apple Watch owns half the worldwide smartwatch market and remains the clear industry leader.”

Sony Adds to Wireless Earbuds With WF-SP800N

Sony announces a successor to the 2018 WF-SP700N "True Wireless" earbuds-- the WF-SP800N, a pair designed for more fitness-focused users featuring active noise cancellation and IP55 water and sweat resistance.

Sony earbudsThe earbuds promise to fit securely in the ear through oft-cushioned arc stabilisers and a curved design, and claim to provide up to 9 hours of continuous use on a single charge with noise cancellation on (with noise cancellation turned off battery life jumps to 13 hours). Charging takes place through an included case, and Sony says a 10 minute charge powers 1 hour of music playback. Connectivity comes through Bluetooth, but it lacks support for aptX, aptX HD or LDAC.

LG releases the Velvet flagship smartphone in its home S. Korea, bringing about a full slew of details for the device, one featuring a 6.8-inch 2460 x 1080 resolution OLED display and the Snapdragon 765 chipset.

Long teased by the company, the Velvet claims to feature a combination of distinctive design and "tactile" elegance. One such touch involves the "Raindrop" camera array, with three cameras and LED flash set in descending order by size on the upper-left corner of the device. The cameras in question feature a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 5MP depth sensor. A small central notch houses the 16MP front-facing camera.
